Purdue Space Day

Volunteer Coordinator

Purdue Space Day is an annual STEM outreach event at Purdue University for elementary and middle school students. Over 800 participants, 300 volunteers and one VIP astronaut join together for a fun filled day of scientific discovery and exploration.

During junior year, I served as the volunteer coordinator on the executive board. In addition to assigning and managing roles, I also served as chief point of contact between volunteers and the executive board. I also analyzed previous year's data to encourage more volunteer participation from students of non-STEM majors. This position was very enriching and taught me a lot about behind-the-scenes coordination, logistics and event-planning. It was also a great exercise in teamwork. Hussar Club

President

Hussar Club is the form of student government for Owen Residence Hall at Purdue University. It is run by the residents and  the senate is in charge of hall funds and votes on how to allocate these funds. The club sponsors and facilitates various activities to promote and foster a healthy student life and diverse community at Owen Hall. Events include skiing, paintball, movies, games, grand prix and many more.

During junior year, I served as president for the club and acted as the official representative for residents of Owen Hall at the bi-weekly Residence Hall Association meetings. In my role, I brought to the fore the needs and concerns of our residents and sought avenues to address these concerns. I also chaired the weekly senate meetings and executive board meetings. With the help of my board of directors, we were able to host events such as puppies and pumpkins, freshman welcome party, midnight pancake breakfast and weekly movie nights. This experience was a very joyful one because it gave me a chance to give back to a community that had given me so much. Owen Hall has been my home away from home at college, and I consider it my honor to serve it any capacity I can. This experience granted me valuable lessons in loyalty, trust and friendship.
